The Cause

Since 1987, the Adams Recreation Center has been an extremely vital part of the Normal Heights community.

Located directly next to John Adams Elementary, the ARC is host to a large number of city-funded programs, creating an after-school wonderland for kids to develop themselves outside of the classroom.

Due to proposed budget cuts, however, all of these programs may well be terminated over the 2009 summer. Already, the operating hours of the ARC have been drastically reduced.

The programs in question are:

The Cause
  • Nature Camp Program
  • Swimming Lessons
  • Free Lunch Program
  • Painting
  • Computer Lab
  • Wee Rock Music Festival
  • Board Game Extravaganza Day
  • Teen Counseling
  • Cooking Class
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Ceramics
  • Relay Races
  • Hip Hop Dance
  • Salsa Dance
  • Flag Football

The Art Around Adams Music & Arts Festival will provide a galvanizing declaration not only of the Rec Center's importance to Normal Heights, but of the importance of park and recreation programs throughout San Diego.

It is through this raising of awareness and funds that we will ensure the existence of these programs. To get more involved, contact Debra Jones at DJJones@SanDiego.gov.
